ScrapNote

Privacy Policy

Effective 11 September 2026 · Last updated 29 September 2026

ScrapNote collects no personal data. There is no server, there is no sign-up, and the developer cannot see what you save.

1. What we collect

Nothing. The app does not receive, store or transmit any of the following.

There is no account and no server operated by the developer. The app contains no analytics tool (no Google Analytics, no Firebase), no advertising SDK and no crash reporter.

2. Why we would use it

Since nothing is collected, there is no purpose of use.

What follows is how the things you create in the app are used on your device. None of it is sent to the developer.

InformationPurposeWhere it is processed
Note text · saved links · foldersShowing and searching your notesOn device
The address of a link you shareReading the title, author and thumbnail so the source stays with the noteDevice → that site
A date found inside a noteGrouping notes with a date coming up, and adding one to your calendar if you askOn device
Long text, when you use the AI summaryShortening it to one lineOn device — see section 5

3. Where your data lives

WhatWhereWho can see it
Notes · links · folders · thumbnailsOn your device, and in your own iCloud if it is onYou only
Usage historyNot recorded—
Device and advertising identifiersNot collected—

iCloud sync uses Apple's CloudKit private database. That space belongs to your Apple Account and the developer has no access to it. Turn iCloud off and your data stays on the device alone.

4. When the app talks to the internet

The app makes only the three requests below. None of them passes through a server of ours, and none of them carries what you wrote.

1. It reads the page you shared

When you save a link, the app connects to that address directly and reads what the page publishes: title, author, thumbnail and text. That is what keeps the source attached to your note.

How much text is read depends on the service. For a YouTube video it is the full description; for an Instagram or Threads post it is the public caption. This is what lets you find the note later by its words, and it is stored on your device only.

2. Some services need their official lookup address

YouTube and TikTok pages do not expose the channel or author name. For those, the app sends the address you shared to the oEmbed endpoint each company publishes, and receives the author's name (and the title, if the title came back empty).

3. It checks whether a new version exists

On launch the app reads one small file hosted on GitHub Pages to learn the current version. It only downloads; nothing is sent — no device information, no usage, no identifier. If the file cannot be read, the app does nothing.

For all three, please note:

5. Artificial intelligence

The feature that shortens long text to a single line uses Apple Intelligence's on-device model. The text never leaves your device and is sent neither to the developer nor to any AI company. On devices without Apple Intelligence the feature does not appear at all.

6. Device permissions

PermissionWhyWhen you are asked
Calendar (write only)Adding a date found in a note to your calendarThe first time you use that feature

Calendar access is write-only. The app never reads your existing events. Refuse it and everything else still works, and you can revoke it at any time in Settings.

ScrapNote sends no notifications at all, so it never asks for notification permission. Dates coming up are shown on screen when you open the app, and reminders for events you added are handled by the iOS Calendar.

Location and photo access are never requested.

7. Payment

Subscription payment is handled by Apple's App Store. The developer never receives, sees or stores a card number or any payment detail. All Apple tells the app is whether this device has a valid subscription.

8. Processors

The developer entrusts personal data to no one, because there is no personal data to entrust.

The app does rely on Apple services, and those are handled in your relationship with Apple.

9. Sharing with third parties

We share nothing. There is no recipient and no data to share.

Even on a request from law enforcement, there is no data to hand over. Your notes exist only on your device and in your Apple Account.

10. Retention and deletion

The developer holds no personal data, so there is no retention period on our side.

What you create stays on your device and in your iCloud until you delete it. You can do that yourself:

There is no need to ask the developer to delete anything. The developer holds no copy.

11. Security

12. Children

ScrapNote is not directed at children under 14 and does not knowingly collect their personal data. It collects no personal data from anyone.

13. Your rights

You may ask to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data at any time.

In practice there is nothing for the developer to act on, because the developer holds no copy of your data — it is on your device and in your own Apple Account, where you can read, change and delete it directly (see section 10). If you need help, please use the contact in section 16.

14. Complaints

The developer is based in South Korea. If you wish to raise a dispute or ask for help, you may contact the following Korean authorities.

15. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, it will be posted here 7 days before it takes effect. A change that materially affects your rights will be posted 30 days before, and noted in the app's update description as well.

If an analytics tool or a server feature is ever added, this policy will be amended first, stating what goes where.
